Come visit!

by at 10:52 pm

Flights through Paris to Zurich from $149/one way! Or to other destinations in Europe.

Also, since otherwise we’d be writing such a short post, we might as well include a little more stuff:

Google Analytics has informed us that we have many lurkers on this blog.  Lurkers are people who read, but do not comment.  Since we’re putting in time to keep you all updated, we would really appreciate your feedback.  If you have been lurking, it is time to announce yourself!  You can comment on specific posts or tell us general things on our wall.  Also, you can always email or skype us, but that doesn’t encourage other people to comment.  We’re looking forward to hearing from you!

You got me, I am indeed a lurker. I’m terrible at commenting, but I promise to do better!

I wish it were that cheap the other way around! I wouldn’t mind me a New York holiday!

Pumpernickel, thanks for your announcing yourself–now we’re equal! And Anna, I wouldn’t mind a NYC holiday (aka going home!!!) either… but then I have classes, which get in the way anyway. But there might actually pretty reasonable flights to the US between now and summer vacation if you looked, and thought creatively about where you might depart from in Europe?

The blog doesn’t especially invite comments, because it tends to be about your experiences, and most of us don’t have particularly interesting things to say about them. If you expanded your posts to talk about world events/trends/culture and ask how they look from here vs from there, it could facilitate a more interesting discussion. It’s not that we don’t want to know what you’re up to, it just seems vapid to say “that sounds like fun,” or “that looks cold,” in the comment section.

Conversations are often about experiences, and if I told a story about something, a friend might reply with a related experience of her own, or some advice, laughter, etc. As Seth pointed out to me, that’s essentially what a facebook wall is…and there is no shortage of comments there! Anyway, I guess that was kind of what I was hoping for here. I think that a lot of our posts do comment on culture, just in the way we experience them and live them rather than overtly writing about cultural differences that we notice. But, point taken, thanks for the feedback!

Despite Alex’s poo-pooing, comments along the lines of “that looks cold” are welcome and encouraged. Maybe we should add a “poke” feature, too?

I lurk every now and then as well… but even though I am not commenting, I am still enjoying every post. Keep up the good work. ;)

How long are you going to be around for? I’ll be in Berlin in June and July, and might be able to come for a visit sometime then (or you could visit me).

I’m a lurker! I just want to check in on you two from the Continent. I’m still commuting to GVA on the weekends but never say hi because Lausanne is sooo far… Glad to hear you’re well! Happy Purim!
